Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

"At the moment of commitment, the universe conspires to assist you." 

As much as I love that quote, I somewhat disagree. I think some people buy into that saying and think that things will fall into their laps if they are willing to make the initial decision. However, even if you've submitted your letter of intent, verbally made a decision, mentally prepared, progress will not be made unless you take the steps to commit. Interviews and training won't be learned on its own, no one will hand you the keys to success, personal growth will not happen by mere luck.

If you are willing to prepare, put in the hard work, there are so many people willing to reach out and help you. You have to reach out first for the universe to really "assist" you!
